Sprint will not provide phones that use its iDen network for voice and push to talk with its CDMA mobile network for mobile data. The last phones from Sprint which offered this winning combination were the PowerSource phones back in 2007.

Both Sprint and Motorola are annoying their Nextel users who were used to having the fast push to talk functionality and Direct Talk walkie talkie system off network. No other mobile network offers this combination of features which has saved lives in certain disaster scenarios where other cell networks went down. Sprint claims to have some new push to talk CDMA phones coming out in the near future, including the Kyocera DuraCore and the DuraMax, but it remains to be seen how well these phones will perform since the company's last attempt at CDMA PTT didn't work out well.

Google Sites is now offering mobile web page templates which allow users to create basic landing pages at no charge. These mobile templates are similar to the other templates offered on Google Sites for creating standard web pages. Users can select from a variety of templates including e-commerce, local business, lead generation, restaurants and social, to name a few.

The templates offer the ability to easily integrate social media and also feature a place to include basic business information, and extra information specific to the type of template. Google Sites also offers users of mobile templates access to traffic analytics for their mobile sites. The templates are made for quick deployment, with the company claiming that they can be up and running literally within minutes. The introduction of the templates is timely given that one in every five search queries today is mobile phone-based.

Tata Teleservices in India is merging its CDMA mobile and GSM divisions, in a move which will eliminate jobs. The announcement comes amid falling profits in the mobile telecom industry, which is prompting restructuring efforts on the part of many companies.

To realize efficiencies, some jobs may become redundant, and it's expected that those employees in the CDMA division will be affected the most. The largest teleco in India, Bharti Airtel, also announced major restructuring efforts less than 1 month ago. An internal memo about the restructuring efforts was sent to all Tata employees this week, and it is expected that the changes will result in many jobs being cut by the end of this year. According to industry experts, job cuts across the Indian telco industry could reach more than 8,000 this year as firms compete to streamline their business and adapt to market dynamics.
