We visit Kriket Broadhurst of 'kriketdesigns' who gives us a run-down on her highly sought-after handcrafted ceramic beads:

"I handcraft ceramic beads based on the 5000 year old Ancient Egyptian technique of faience, which essentially means they are ceramic based, but develop a glassy, opulent surface when kiln fired due to fluxes and oxides in the base mix".

Tell us about the colouring and quality of the beads.

"My beads are available in an enticing array of unique colours and tones from rich turquoise, azure blues, greens and tans – my beads ZV1P4172.JPGhave a subtle organic quality, not quite ceramic, glass or stone in appearance; they feel lovely to hold, touch and wear. They carry the mark of the hand, reminding us they resulted purely from a hand crafted process, not from a manufacturer's machine".

We hear you are now producing 'interactive' designs. Can you explain what you mean by 'interactive'?

"My current designs are 'interactive' in so much as they allow one to wear them in a number of creative ways – in essence they are up to five designs in one".

"The beads are supported on flexible stainless steel wire that I hand wrap with linen thread and incorporate sterling silver elements such as tiny beads, hand beaten clasps and features.  In addition there are several short and long single strand neckpieces with matching earrings and rings. All pieces include sterling silver and or stainless steel wire except where stated".
