- Crisis Skylight Centre, Newcastle
Our mission is to fight homelessness and enable people to fulfil their potential and transform their lives. Out of this desire was born Crisis Skylight, a model developed by Crisis in London in 2002. Skylight is a Learning and Skills Centre that offers people free access to a variety of learning opportunities where homeless and non-homeless people can take part in practical and creative workshops together. Crisis Skylight is founded on the principle that we can provide one-to-one support, advice and guidance, progression to work to help people reach their chosen goal.
- New Exhibition by Northumberland Artist Michelle Milburn
Working from her remote studio in Northumberland, Michelle uses vibrant acrylic inks and paint on bespoke hand stretched canvas to create her interpretations of the spaces she studies.
"I spend a lot of time in and around buildings getting to know all the moods and facets of its character, whilst all the time producing sketches and taking reference photographs which I work from back in the studio. Once back at the drawing board anything from fine nibbed dip pens to decorators rollers are employed, it’s a very exciting process, you never know exactly how its going to turn out, that’s what keeps me coming back and keeps me motivated".

But his first love remains the wild countryside and rugged coastline of his home county of Northumberland, which he has photographed extensively. His work from this region has appeared in numerous national magazines and has been used widely in publicity material by local councils and tourism offices.
David was recently judged North East Regional Winner of the 'Postcards from the Park' competition, for his stunning image of sunrise in Hexham Sele. The competition was launched by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund in partnership with parks charity GreenSpace.
- Design Edge Trade Show, Sandown, Surrey
Aurora Members reported taking orders from galleries around the country including London, Cheshire, the Isle of Wight and even some nearer home in Yorkshire and Cumbria.
Following on from the success of the British Craft Trade Fair, Harrogate in April and now Design Edge, Surrey in September, it gives Aurora members the opportunity to supply locally produced items to new outlets Nationwide, increasing their business and creating awareness of Northumbrian Arts & Crafts.
- Mike McFarlane - North East Photographer - Wins National Award
Landscape Photographer, Mike McFarlane, based in County Durham has won a national award for his photography. The Take a View Landscape Photographer of the Year Competition sponsored by LowePro, the AA and the Sunday Times has awarded Mike the LowePro Environment Award.
Mike continually strives to promote the protection of our fragile open spaces, using his stunning images, so it is fitting that that he has won the Environment award in this competition - which was designed to be given to a photograph 'reflecting the beauty of our precious natural environment'.
- North East by South West with Devon Artsculture
Devon Artsculture is delighted to be working in conjunction with The Aurora Project and The Art Works Galleries on this large group exhibition, to showcase the talent of artists based in Devon and Northumbria, on the theme of ‘Contemporary Landscape and the environment’.

The new Aurora website has been the result of the co-operation of three main parties. The first is Brian Reid, the Project Manager. The second is John Picton, Aurora member and proprietor of web design company Elmnet. Finally, the third party who has made the creation of the site possible are the members. We asked John how it all came together and what's happening next.

The Aurora Project began in 1998 supported by European funding and Northumberland County Council, its aim was to assist the growth of arts and crafts by developing and helping a network of artists and craftspeople living and working in the region.
